Project G.R.A.S.P. A Parent-Child Joint Engagement Training: Clinician Manual

This manual is designed for professionals who work with the families with children between the ages of 2-3, who are diagnosed with or at risk for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and experience deficits in social communication or language delays. The strategies presented in this manual are supported by principles of developmental psychology and applied behavior analysis and are designed to be taught by professionals working with this population through a parent-coaching model. By implementing this model, professionals will be able to teach parents pivotal skills that will help them not only engage with their child, but also improve their child’s social communication skills. This manual presents background information on ASD and explains the importance of including parents in intervention procedures that target social communication behaviors. Professionals will also have access to visual prompts, lesson plans, and homework sheets that will aid in the implementation of the intervention.
